Course Overview
After an introduction to how the Internet works and on Web design, students will design two Web projects. The first will be done in HTML coding and the second will be done using Dreamweaver.
The Internet
TOPICS: Cold War origins, ARPA, packet-switching networks, ARPANET, TTL ( "time to live"), the Internet Protocol (IP), the four issues addressed by the Transfer Control Protocol (TCP) (reliability, error detection, flow control and sequencing), the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) and the File Transfer Protocol (FTP).
Web Browsers/Editors
TOPICS: Learn tne functions of the Netscape and Internet Explorer browsers including viewing the source code, downloading using "Save As", and downloading graphics.
Web Design
TOPICS: Elementary HTML tags. Tags for text, links, images. Using graphics editing software to resize and crop images. Tags for colors, backgrounds, tables, frames, image mapping. cascading style sheets, templates, date functions using javascript and form processing applications.
